Finn Family Moomintroll -- discovering an old classic

About this book and author.
It was first published 70 years ago in Finland and translated into English in 1950. The author, Tove Jansson, was born in Finland in 1914 and died in 2001. She studied painting in Finland, Sweden and France and lived alone on a small Finnish island where most of her books were written.

Over the last five weeks Room 18 has enjoyed listening to Mrs Bridgman reading Finn Family Moomintroll. The students have explored the quirky, colourful adventures of the Moomin family and their friends, and each has completed an online quiz to determine which Moomin character they are most like.

Each of the colourful characters have become a favourite with someone in the class.
Leighton says "My favourite character would be Snufkin because he always goes on adventures and I like doing that too!"
Aisling likes Snorkmaiden because "she is kind and caring" and Sarah-Kate likes her because "she has a great personality". Matilda also likes her - she says "my favourite is Snorkmaiden because I took the quiz and I got her and she looks nice and caring and in her picture she's holding flowers and I love flowers". She's Alice's favourite because she "is beautiful"
Vaughn likes the scary Hattenfatteners "because they look weird".
Daniel thinks Moomintroll is "clever, smart and interesting" and Guy likes him because he's "always happy"
Other favourites are Hemulen because he collects things like stars, Little My because she is short and cute, and Sniff because he's cool and he sniffs.
